Following the publication of the first and second articles about my study abroad experience, I’ve received feedback including queries about universities and graduate programs that can offer admission and at the same time award graduate assistantships without you needing to provide GRE scores and English Proficiency Test.

This article is written in response to those queries.

I’ve decided to chronicle my application and admission experiences with the Clinton School of Public Service and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. These schools offered admission without requiring me to provide GRE scores. In addition, I received a scholarship and graduate assistantship from both universities.

I have also researched Ohio University and found out that the university has a multitude of programs that offer admission and graduate assistantships without requiring you to provide GRE scores.

I wanted to validate the facts I have gathered about these programs. Before writing this article, I discussed with some of my friends who have gained admission and received scholarships and graduate assistantships from Ohio University and all have confirmed that they didn’t need GRE scores at their graduate programs. They all confirmed receiving graduate assistantships.

Graduate Assistanship

A graduate assistantship is a form of financial package that is awarded to a graduate student who has been offered admission to study at a particular department.

This type of graduate funding is common in the United States. Normally, the recipient of this award is assigned to assist a professor to conduct research or administrative duties that may be assigned to him or her. For example, he or she may be required to grade homework and assignments for the designated professor.

In return, the awardee student would be given a monthly stipend and also receive a tuition reduction for at least the cost of 9 credit hours per semester. For the tuition reduction, the university can pay the whole or part of the tuition. You are left with nothing to pay if you receive a full-tuition deduction.

My Experience as a Graduate Assistant

For example, as a graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, I received a graduate assistantship and a monthly stipend. This enabled me to pay my tuition and concentrate on my studies without thinking about how I was going to survive.

The best thing to gift a relative, friend, and loved one is education. That’s why I decided to write this article to encourage and motivate you to follow your dreams. And if it’s your dream to study abroad, I will recommend you read further about the schools listed. One thing I can assure you is that these programs do not require you to have GRE scores and English proficiency certificate if you’ve already studied in a four-year higher institution of learning, where English was used as the medium of instruction.

In addition, you would be considered for admission without GRE scores if you have already obtained a master’s degree in any field and you want to study for another master’s degree in these schools.

For example, before I gained admission to study MSc at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, I have a master’s degree in public service and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and geography. The program coordinator waived the GRE scores for me.

The Program Coordinator

Before you apply, it is advisable to reach out to the program coordinator, a designated school official who is in charge of a particular program that the department offers. This person can provide detailed information about the program, scholarships, and graduate assistantships.
